Debate me.
For reference:
Maryland is the most confusing one.
Some of appalachia isn’t consistent with the rest of the south.
I like some of California, but hate the rest of it. I like Orange County and I am fine with Marin. I hate San Francisco and Los Angeles.
I am considering Northern Virginia the south based on the history of the area and it’s strong former ties to the confederacy.
I’m considering rural southern Maryland southern. People there are super laid back and friendly compared to the rest of the state.
Texas is too large to be all part of the south.

Split Colorado right down the middle between West and Midwest.

I was gonna draw a straight line down from the Nebraska/Wyoming line.

Your question mark for Kentucky/West Virginia should probably be called Appalachia and certainly extends into parts of PA, TN, VA, NC, GA. Some beautiful country but also quite strange folk living there.
Certainly accurate though for the most part

That’s what I was thinking as well. Especially WV and Kentucky.

minnesota, wisconsin and michigan should be Canada South

Canada is great. You missed that.
Also, from the stories I’ve heard from my North Carolinian friend, West Virginia is the south.

Maybe the bottom bit, definitely not all of it.
canada stays as “no”

Alive, yes. Relevant, no.

I thought Arkansas being part of “the south” was fairly agreed upon. I have no evidence with which to back that up.

I never really saw the entirely of it as the south. Kinda weird border state between the Midwest and the south.

Why does it look like a kindergartener’s coloring book?

I debate that your title is wrong because you only labeled the US, part of Mexico, and the Prairies in Canada to your specifications.
![]() 03/10/2018 at 18:19 |

I don’t know much about Mexico, or Canada so by my specifications they exist but I do not care enough to label them.

Yes for Appalachia. Also, MD, VA, and de are the Mid Atlantic.
![]() 03/10/2018 at 18:25 |

Mid Atlantic but considered southern still.

Sometimes, people break up the Northeast into New England (Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island) and Mid Atlantic (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Maryland).
Helps a bit with placing Maryland and Delaware, since they aren’t exactly Northeast, but aren’t Southern either (though the Eastern Shore of Maryland and lower Delaware away from the beaches are definitely more Southern than large parts of Florida and Virginia these days).

Florida should be no.
Otherwise, here:

I’d throw nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas and the Eastern half of Colorado into the great plans with the Dakota’s.
Then ar, ky, the wv and the southern third of Missouri into Appalachia/Ozarks. Source - I live in Missouri and have spent a ton of time travelling and exploring thatarea - once you leave the cities it’s basically all hill people...
Minnesota and Wisconsin are Midwest, but colder.
The rest look ok.

Midwest is best. Coasts are just for boasts.
There’s actually a movement in California to split the state up (well overdue, IMHO), which would make the uber-urban areas - LA, SF, etc. - part of California, and the rest of the state - including San Diego & the rural farming areas & mountains - would be “New California”. I hope they’re successful, and that similar happens to NY, FL, TX, & IL.

Why are 2 no’s together in CA? Just draw it as one no. It is driving my OCD crazy.

Here is my version done with a snipping tool. Your version of CA is correct, but I had trouble doing it.
I made Appalachia its own region because it is very different than east of the mountains or the midwest. From my experience Eastern Kentucky is Appalachia. Western Kentucky is the Midwest.
Delmarva is also different south of Dover, DE it is laid back rural and beachy.
The Great Lakes is Lakes and Rust from Minnesota to Buffalo, NY.
Oklahoma I put in the west even though I have never been there.
Arkansas is South due to history and precieved similarities with Texas and Mississippi, even though I have never been there.

Agreed Eastern Shore Maryland and lower Delaware feel like the south. As someone who lived in various parts of Pennsylvania I cut it into three parts the North East/Mid Atlantic, Appalachia, and Great Lakes Region.

I agree with everything except putting any of Virginia in the Northeast and some of Md.

I feel like the DC area fits with the NE because it is part of the Boston to DC megaopolis.

It doesn’t quite have the identity of any of those northern cities though.
